Apixaban Drug Information

Medication Information: Apixaban prevents clots from forming by inhibiting the substrate that causes blood to clot. Sometimes blood clots may form in the arteries of the lungs, heart, and brain. This is especially true after surgery and irregular heartbeats. For several years, a drug called warfarin has been used to prevent clots. People taking warfarin should have a warfarin dose test every once in a while to determine the exact dose of the drug. However, there is no need to perform tests to determine the dose of apixaban.

Contraindications to the use of the drug apixaban

Pay attention to the expiration date of the drug Apixaban and do not take the medicine if it has expired.

Never give apixaban to anyone else, even if you have the same symptoms.

Do not take more than the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Check for drug interactions with apixaban and be sure to tell your doctor what other medicine you are taking.

Drug Interaction of Apixaban

Drug interactions may alter drug performance and increase the risk of serious side effects. Make a list of all the medicines (including prescription / over-the-counter medicines and herbal products) you use and share them with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not change the dose of your medicine without consulting your doctor or stop taking the medicine.

Some medications that may interact with apixaban include mifepristone, medications that can cause bleeding or bruising (including antiplatelet drugs such as clopidogrel, "blood thinners" such as warfarin, and warfarin). (enoxaparin), certain antidepressants (including SSRIs such as fluoxetine, and SNRIs such as venlafaxine).

Drugs that can affect the elimination of apixaban from the body include: specific antifungal drugs azole (such as itraconazole, ketoconazole, posaconazole, clarithromycin, clarithromycin, clarithromycin) HIV protease inhibitors (such as lopinavir), ritonavir, rifamycins such as rifabutin, yeast, drugs used to treat seizures (such as carbamazepine) and phenytoin.

Check the labels on all your medications, especially painkillers or fevers (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and naproxen), as they may contain ingredients that increase the risk of bleeding when taken with apixaban. Be sure to take this medicine if you have been prescribed low-dose aspirin to prevent a heart attack or stroke. Be sure to talk to your pharmacist about taking apixaban with other medicines.

Tips to consider before taking Apixaban

Some medications can not be prescribed under certain conditions, and some medications may be prescribed if additional treatment is needed. Therefore, it is best for your doctor to be aware of the following before taking apixaban.

  • If you are pregnant if you are breast-feeding.
  •  If you have recently had surgery (other than pelvic and knee surgery).
  •  If you have a stomach or intestinal ulcer.
  •  If you have high blood pressure.
  •  If you have any problems that increase your chances of bleeding.
  •  If you have any liver or kidney problems.
  •  If you are taking other medicines. These include all available medicines, whether prescribed or used by your doctor, such as herbal medicines and supplements.
  •  If you are allergic to any medicine.

Possible side effects of apixaban

All drugs, along with their positive effects, can cause unwanted side effects in the body. However, these complications do not occur in all people. If there is a negative change in your health after taking the medicine, it is better to consult your doctor. Many complications may be similar to the symptoms of other illnesses.

Boredom: Try to take the medicine after eating.

Bleeding and bruising of the skin: If this persists, tell your doctor.

Anemia: Your doctor will look into this.

Important Note: If you have any abnormal bleeding, see a doctor immediately.
