Imidapril Drug Information
Imidapril is in a group of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors or ACE inhibitors. This medicine is prescribed to lower blood pressure. Hypertension is a disease in which blood pressure is higher than normal.
ACE inhibitors such as imidapril prevent the body from producing a hormone called angiotensin II. It does this by inhibiting an enzyme called an angiotensin converter. Imidapril dilates blood vessels and reduces the amount of open water absorbed by the kidneys, thereby lowering blood pressure. People with high blood pressure may have no symptoms, but if the condition persists, high blood pressure can damage the heart and blood vessels, leading to a heart attack.
