The lips are counted among the most touch sensitive parts of the human body , However sometimes lip feels weird suddenly,  they can go numb and rubbery .There are other things that can lead to  weird feeling in lips or cause to lose feeling the lip or get a tingle in the lips which include some allergies, cold sores, cold weather, and certain medical conditions. Allergic reaction:

Lips feel weird can be a sign of an allergic reaction. Although the minor allergic reactions are mostly nothing to worry about, but the more severe allergies can lead to anaphylaxis which is a potentially life threatening reaction and needs intervention. These signs generally occur immediately just after the contact with the allergen.

One should seek immediate medical care if you have following:

  • Trouble in breathing
  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Swelling in the mouth or in the throat
  • Facial swelling in particular

1. Food allergies :There are certain food allergies that occur within a few hours after eating the trigger food, no doubt sometimes the reaction can occur within a few minutes also. Allergies can be caused by any food, however most food allergies are due to following: 

  • Milk
  • Peanuts
  • Tree nuts
  • Fish
  • Shellfish
  • Wheat

Food protein induced enter colitis syndrome is a type of delayed food allergy reaction which may happen 2 to 6 hours after drinking milk or ingesting soy, or some other grains, or other food items. 

  1. Oral allergy syndrome, or we can say pollen-food syndrome, typically causes feelings of itchiness after eating few raw fruits, or raw vegetables, or nuts. 
  2. Drug allergies : If a persons immune system has become very sensitive to a substance in a particular medication, then a person might have developed a drug allergy. Then the body of the person sees this substance as foreign and releases chemicals against it in an effort to defend itself from  the invader.

In addition to lips feeling weird , person may experience following:

  • Wheezing
  • Hives or skin rashes
  • Itching
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness

 

4. Chemical allergies: The chemicals present in makeup or other cosmetics applied to the lips can also cause an allergic reaction. In addition to weird feeling of lips, symptoms include following:

  • Itching
  • Dry patches
  • Blisters

 

Food poisoning:

There are certain cases where food poisoning may cause weird feeling in  lips, as well as in the tongue, throat, and mouth. A person is most likely to get food poisoning from events where food is left out of refrigeration for longer periods of time, like during picnics and buffets. Symptoms can develop soon after eating  contaminated foods however, in other cases, it may even take several days or weeks for a person to get sick. Other symptoms of food poisoning causing weird feeling in lips include following:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach pain 
  • Cramping
  • Fever

Eating Fish and shellfish leads to food poisoning or we can say are common causes of food poisoning, as they may contain different type of bacterium and neurotoxins take an example, the most common food poisoning related to water food or seafood, this is most commonly caused by sea bass, barracuda, red snapper, and some other bottom dwelling reef fish which include a certain poisonous food in their respective diets. 

 

Vitamin or mineral deficiency

  • Muscle cramps

Raynaud’s syndrome

In general, tingling or weird sensation in the lips are nothing to worry about and will usually clear up on their own within a day but , in Raynaud’s syndrome, tingling in the lips are an important symptom. In primary Raynaud’s syndrome , tingling lips usually result from the stress or sudden exposure to cold temperatures. No medication or urgent care is needed in this mostly But in Secondary Raynaud’s which is caused by an underlying condition, and the symptoms are more extensive treatment is needed.

 

Cold sore

Cold sores often might cause weird feeling in the lips before the blister develops. The course of a cold sore mostly  follows a pattern of itching, blisters, and then finally oozing and crusting. If a person is developing a cold sore, these may be experienced as well :

  • Fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Swollen lymph nodes

Cold sores are typically caused by certain strains of a virus called the herpes simplex virus .

 

Hypoglycemia

In hypoglycemia, the blood sugar level is too low, which results in symptoms that might include weird feeling in lips and around the mouth. The body actually the brain needs a certain amount of glucose to function well , we know this hypoglycemia is typically associated with diabetes, but to clear it anyone can experience low blood sugar.Symptoms and signs of low blood sugar often come on suddenly people in addition to tingling in the lips, may experience following:

As when a person hyperventilates, person breathes  in too much oxygen, which indeed lowers the amount of carbon dioxide in the blood which can cause numbness or tingling around the lips. To increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the body, person needs to take in less oxygen by covering the

mouth and one nostril or breathing into a bag exclusively paper one .

Multiple sclerosis

bacteria. It’s important to mention that one of the first associated symptoms of MS involves numbness in the face, which could include weird feeling in lips. There are other parts of the body which are affected in MS, like the arms and legs.

  • More common symptoms of MS include following:
  • Numbness of the legs or feet
  • Difficulty balancing
  • Muscle weakness
  • Muscle spastic
  • Acute or chronic pain
  • Speech disorders
  • Tremor

 

Shingles

Shingles is a disease caused by the same virus which causes chickenpox. This condition is typically characterized by a painful red rash along the torso and Fluid-filled blisters break open then crust over, leading to itching. The said rash may also appear around one eye or around one side of the neck or face. Other symptoms include following:

  • Fever
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue

However its possible to get  shingles without any rash at all. If a person has  weakened immune system, it’s more likely they may be more prone to develop shingles

 

Oral cancer

In very few  cases, tingling, numbness and weird lip feeling in the lips can be a sign of oral cancer. This sensation in particular may be caused by clusters of tumours on the lips. Tumours can be formed anywhere on the lips, however they’re more common on the bottom one. Risk factors for oral cancer, particularly lip cancer, range from tobacco use to sun exposure on daily basis .

Seizure

Seizure is something that takes place when there is imbalance in some chemicals in our brain this can directly affect other body parts. When seizure happens it can lead to muscle twitching and drooling and some other symptoms like lips can twitch or feel weird too, this goes away as soon as seizure stops.

 

Herpes

Herpes is something that can cause sores in mouth around lips and in private parts. It’s caused by a virus called as human simplex virus. Lips can be affected by this virus too in some cases and might feel weird.
