Triamterene drug information

Drug Information: Triamtrin belongs to a group of drugs called potassium-sparing diuretics. Diuretics are sometimes called water tablets. These pills expel excess water from the body. Triamterene is a protector of potassium and, unlike other diuretics, does not excrete potassium from the body. Triamtrin is used to treat edema (accumulation of water in the body). Edema is usually caused by heart, liver or kidney failure.

Edema occurs when fluid leaks out of blood vessels and causes swelling in the lungs and legs. This condition causes shortness of breath. This drug reduces fluid in the body by increasing the excretion of urine from the kidneys.

Contraindications to the use of triamterene

Pay attention to the expiration date of the triamterene drug and do not take it if the medicine in your hand has expired.

Never give triamterene to another person, even if you have the same symptoms.

Do not take more triamterene than the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Check for triamterene drug interactions and be sure to tell your doctor what other medications you are taking.

Triamterene drug interaction

Drug interactions may alter drug performance and increase the risk of serious side effects. Make a list of all the medicines (including prescription / over-the-counter medicines and herbal products) you use and share them with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not change the dose of your medicine without consulting your doctor or stop taking the medicine.

Some medicines that may interact with triamterene include lithium and other medicines that may increase potassium levels (such as amiloride, eplerenone, tacrolimus, cyclosporine, and anticonvulsants). drospirenone)).

Check labels on all your medications (such as cough and cold medications, diet supplements, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen). Because they may contain ingredients that can increase your blood pressure or worsen swelling (edema).

Triamterene may interfere with certain laboratory tests and may cause erroneous results. Tell your doctor or nurse that you are taking this medicine before the test.

Tips to consider before taking triamterene

Some medications are not suitable for people with certain conditions, and some medications may be prescribed if additional treatment is needed. Therefore, it is best for your doctor to be aware of the following before taking triamterene:

• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

• If you have any kidney problems or urination.

• If you have diabetes.

• If you have a history of an allergic reaction to a drug.
