Refractive error correction surgeries

Laser surgery to correct refractive errors caused by corneal surface problems is called refractive surgery.

Some of these surgeries are followed by corrected stigmatism and myopathy, and you can enjoy seeing the world without the need for glasses with thick and heavy lenses.

But special care is definitely required before and after LASIK, LASIK and PRK.

What is LASIK?

It is a type of PRK surgery in which stigmatism, myopia and hyperopia are corrected.

In fact, it is necessary to choose a combination of LASIK and PRK.

Some people do not have the condition to have LASIK, they have a thin cornea and cannot tolerate LASIK. In these people, LASIK is the surgical method of choice to correct the refractive errors of their abdomen.

The laser used in LASEK is an excimer laser, which radiates to the eye and makes corrections in the cornea that, as a result of these changes, you can see without glasses.

What differentiates LASIK from LASIK and PRK is said to be the difference in corneal preparation for excimer laser.

The removal of glasses is really enjoyable for people who need glasses all the time. After repairing the cornea after LASEK, you will have a very clear vision.

What happens during LASEK?

Only the superficial layer of the cornea will be separated from the feeding layer below it, the corneal stroma. In LASEK, the surgeon transfers a very thin incision from the surface layer of the cornea or corneal epithelium to one side of the cornea, the laser beam is then shone on the eye. And now, after the laser irradiation, a thin epithelial tissue is placed on the surface of the eye to cover the corneal stroma. A sterile contact lens is placed on the site that acts as dressing of a wound to help hold the epithelial flap in place and repair the incision.

What care is needed before LASEK?

You should not wear contact lenses one week before your surgery. People with hard contact lenses should avoid using them for three to four weeks before surgery.

At the clinic, your doctor will have a thorough and accurate assessment of your eye health.

You will be examined with a slit lamp; eye pressure will be measured and Eyeball movements are examined.

The back of the eye or retina is examined after a pupil dilator or so-called mydriatic drop.

Accurate examination of refractive error, determination of eye number and amount and intensity of vision is performed.

What corneal examinations are performed?

Corneal examinations and examinations will be performed, which will include the following:

Be sure to take a bath the day before the operation and wash the edges of your eyelids with a mild baby shampoo.

Do not wear any makeup, do not use perfume or cologne on the day of surgery because the laser device is sensitive to odors.

Eyelid and eyelash trimming is prohibited.

Be sure to eat a light meal before surgery.

Be sure to have a companion on the day of surgery.

And but:

What is the postoperative care of LASEK?

Avoid eye makeup for the first two to four weeks.

The use of contact lenses is prohibited for up to three months after LASEK.

For the first two weeks, do not smoke because they have a strong ability to irritate and contaminate the operated cornea in the air and dust.
